Mary Poppins Bag
As a child I remember being awed at the treasures that came out of Mary Poppins bag and now my kids feel that way about my bag of necessities (aka junk). It's so funny what kids find fascinating. Lucky loves digging through my bag. Some of his favorites include the tide pen, prayer ropes he can chew on, and his snack container. He pulled each item out separately and placed it on his head before throwing it on the ground. Here he is in action.
We had a great time at the museum this weekend. It's a free museum and they have a great little area for kids to play and create different things.
We built a prairie, made some crafts, checked out the dinosaur exhibit and discovered how "neat" cells look through a microscope.
Some interesting things we learned from this visit to the Museum:
Since manatees are mammals, they nurse from their mother. She feeds them from under her fin.
Mama Octopus' die after their eggs hatch and swim off. (How I imagine I will feel when my boys leave home)
The Gentle Giant Octopus
by Karen Wallace. What an enjoyable and educational little book! It's full of beautiful illustrations and in verse describes the process of how a mother octopus searches for a place to lay her eggs, protects them and eventually watches them hatch and swim away. Ace loved it, we'll be purchasing a copy for home.
Another set of books that we love is My World by Innovative Kids.
There are 10 short books inside of the binder (that fits nicely in your purse) that contain different sets of sight words and picture words. Children easily learn to combine the two to "read" each book. It has built Ace's reading confidence and he has learned 5 sight words in just a little over a month! My goal is to have him reading all of his sight words by the time he starts pre-school in the fall. With the help of these books this is very possible! There are several sets to choose from.
