Beach Blast

Lucky's Birthday turned out great! I was really worried about the weather because it's been literally raining every afternoon, but thank God the day of his party was beautiful! We had a great afternoon filled with balloons, great food, family, friends and sunshine. My mom and cousin Athena flew in from Ohio to celebrate with us and it was sooo nice spending time with everyone! I did the last of my shopping on Wednesday and cooked all day Thursday and Friday. Friday night we left and Saturday morning I added the finishing touches on a few things and decorated the cake (baked on Friday). I was super nervous and as much fun as it was I will never transport a cake with more than two tiers again!
The kids built sandcastles, painted seashells and had water balloon fights until the sun went down. They feasted on Octo-dogs and Seaweed
(aka hot dogs cut like octopuses and green ramen noodles), Shark cupcakes, Sand dessert
and Conch Pasta. Bakerella's Pool Pops were a hit and I have to tell you they were pretty mom-friendly to make. I baked the cake, rolled them into balls and shaped them the night before and refrigerated them overnight. The next day I dipped and decorated them and put them in their wrappers. I was surprised how easy they were to make. They were a great eye-grabber on the dessert table and everyone loved how delicious they tasted! Thanks Bakerella!

We had a blast and the next day was his nameday, so we had a double celebration weekend. I've been very fortunate to have both of my boys born very close to their namedays. I keep saying I'm going to start downsizing the birthday parties and making a bigger deal out of their namedays, especially since they fall so close together anyway.

After all was said and done I was hit with the cold, hard truth. My baby's not a baby anymore. :*( Now that's a whole 'nother post....
