Orthodox Decoupage
Well while we were waiting on Fay this afternoon Mod-Podge and I had a date with a paper box.
All you need is:
a paper mache book box
textured scrapbook paper, 2 sheets
1 regular sheet scrapbook paper for inside lining
bottle of mod-podge
glue, any type, even plain 'ole Elmer's
sponge brush
acrylic paint
paper icons
Altogether I think this cost like $8.00 to make!
Check it out:
First I painted the box with regular brown acrylic paint.
After it dried I cut out the coordinating scrapbook paper, the textured kind and glued a piece to the front and the back. You could do the whole thing if it's a thinner paper but I didn't want to lose the detail on the "spine" of the box.
Next you'll glue a thin paper icon to the front, a piece of paper to line the inside bottom of the box and anything else you want to the inside cover. They also look really nice plain but I wanted this picture of our Geronda and the prayer on the inside.
And then apply 2-3 thin layers of the Mod-Podge with a sponge brush. Let dry thoroughly before applying each coat. Also make sure the outside is completely and totally dry before opening it to do the inside. Otherwise the glue will stick and pull the paint off.
This really came out great and everyone that saw it thought I bought it somewhere. I think I'll make a few for Christmas gifts.
You could do them with patron saints for someone's nameday or a guardian angel one for the kids. I think I'm going to do that for Ace's nameday in November but on a regular box instead of a book. I'll keep you posted! Be sure to post pics and let me know if you try this so I can check it out!
