The Mother Letter Project
First, before you read this I should warn you. You will need tissues. I think this is the most romantic thing I have heard in...well, ever. Now I should tell you that I am not your typical romantic, and as my husband will confirm that I am not easily swooned. BUT THIS!!! Oh good gracious, is unbelievably beautiful... Okay, so you want to know what I'm talking about?
It's called The Mother Letter Project. One woman's husband, "Danny" in the blogosphere, recently took a trip to Africa and while he was there he became even more ashamed and disgusted with our "typical American Christmas—gizmos, gadgets, whatnots, and an oversized helping of turkey," as he calls it.
So he and his wife decided they wouldn't buy eachother gifts this Christmas. They would create something small for eachother and then donate the money they would've spent to the village he visited in Africa.
This is when his brilliant idea was born. He thought about how his wife sacrifices so much to stay home and raise their small children and while he understands how precious these times are, he also understands how difficult these days are too.
{Enter The Mother Letter Project} He began to ask female friends and family members to write a letter to his wife, offering some type of encouragement. For the things she may be experiencing at this point in her life as well as those she may encounter in the future. After receiving some fabulous letters, he realized he wanted this to be huge. So people around the web are showing their support and writing letters to his wife. (She is a member of the blogosphere and he's trying to keep this a secret, so his name and other info has been changed) hee hee...
He also wants to know how you are creating Christmas this year and any places you like to donate to.
You can e-mail your letters to motherletter{at}gmail{dot}com. Be sure to start the letter with Dear Mother and end it with your signature. Also, if you post about this be sure to let him know so he can add you to his rapidly growing blogroll...
He's going to publish these letters in a book for her and will e-mail whoever contributes a letter before Christmas a free copy!
