Fresh Milk & Eggs
A few weeks ago our neighbor asked if I'd mind milking her cows while she was gone. Immediately I felt like Constance from A Bride Most Begrudging. I have limited experience in that area and was sort of nervous agreeing to take on such a task but at the same time I was very excited. Then she told me I could keep whatever I milked and that made me even more excited! Fresh milk! Yippee! So I milked Bonnie & Bessie and we enjoyed their creamy milk!
Our newest hens have finally started to lay {they all went on strike during Advent}. We were starting to get worried, we barely got a dozen eggs during the whole Nativity fast and we have over 30 hens! DH & I joke that they were fasting because they started to lay shortly after Christmas. :) The new hens lay blueish-green eggs, they are so pretty! Someone told me there is no cholesterol in them but I have to look into it to confirm. So this morning I boiled some and squeezed some fresh orange juice for breakfast. It's amazing how invigorated I feel after eating something so fresh. I don't know if it's all in my head or not but I really do feel better and more energetic!
I keep telling DH that if there was a monastery near North Dakota I'd want to move there and Homestead. I really have no idea what I'm doing but I'd love to learn and think that such a simple way of life is what God intended. At least for someone like me who gets caught in so many snares everyday. As materialistic as I am, my spirit really rejoices in these simple things and I know I would be so much happier without all the "stuff" that crowds my life. Anyone else feel like that?
