The Red Envelope Project

The Red Envelope Project

The following letter is from Fr. Demetrios Carellas' email list. If you are not on this list I highly recommend contacting him to be added. You can email him at papadem{at}consolidated{dot}net.

He sends daily emails with quotes from different spiritual writings, services, etc. It is an excellent list and is perfect for those of us who don't keep up with our spiritual readings as we should. I look forward to reading them with my morning coffee each day.

This email is to urge Orthodox Christians to take part in The Red Envelope Project, an effort to protest Abortion to President Obama.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

A man named Chris Otto came up with this idea. I entreat you to consider taking part in this - hopefully - nation-wide effort to speak up for the pre-born child. It is time to do whatever we can in behalf of those innocent ones, who cannot speak up for themselves. +Fr. Demetrios

Here is the plan:

Get a RED envelope (from a place like Kinkos or a party supply store) and mail it on MARCH 31ST to the White House.

On the front, address it to:

President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington , D.C. 20500

On the back, write a short message of your choosing. This is what my (Fr. Demetrios') envelope will say:

This envelope is empty, because it represents one of the 50 million children who
were murdered by an abortion. ABORTION KILLS LITTLE BABIES! CHOOSE LIFE!

Then, please consider sending this to others.

Also, I entreat you to pray DAILY that our Lord Jesus will deliver us from this most terrible sin against Him, before the soul of our nation is lost forever.

I urge all of you to participate in this project and to sign up for his mailing list.

I also want to make my feelings concerning abortion clear. I am not in any way condemning a person for committing abortion. I pray that our loving Lord will turn them to repentance in the same way I pray He leads me to the road of true repentance. I am, however, condemning the sin and the act of abortion. If I have offended anyone in my expression of these feelings I humbly apologize, that is never my intention.
