Camping Trips + Giveaway
I am so excited! We finally booked our camping trip which has been about 5 years in the making! We have been saying forever that we need to plan a trip but something has always come up. We always say, "As soon as it cools off a little." However, by the time it cools off we're too busy with well...life.
So finally we got a group of people together and are heading to the woods. There are 3 or 4 families from church coming along so Ace and Lucky will have their buddies to play with. I can't wait to sit around the fire and read stories to them. I will definitely be bringing along the book,
My Warrior Saints. The stories are the perfect length for sitting around a campfire gobbling up s'mores. As a child our family would pack up and go to Lake Erie or another local campground every summer for week long camping trips. We used to have so much fun fishing, hiking and roasting marshmallows. I remember I would always bring along my roller skates because they had a big blacktopped area and I loved skating around on it.
I remember slicing bananas (through the peel—leaving the peel on ) and stuffing it with mini-marshmallows and chocolate chips. Then we'd wrap the whole thing in foil and put them on the coals around the edges of the fire until warm and gooey. You can eat it right out of the peel with a spoon, so there's not too much clean-up. The boys are going to love these--anything with chocolate right? Here's a photo of my Dad, my brother and I at Pymatuning Lake from 1986. My sister was afraid of this stuffed bear so she didn't want to be in the pic, lol. Those were good times. I can't wait to start adding camping memories to by boy's childhoods.
I'm going to start tent hunting this week and am compiling a list of supplies and campfire recipes. So far my shopping list looks like this:
- ingredients for s'mores
- boy's backpacks filled with field guides, magnifying glasses, etc.
- bug box
- cutesy teapot for tea and hot cocoa
- sleeping bags
- kid's boots
- doormat
- Triaminic Vaporized Patches (thanks to Marta who posted that kids get stuffy from campfire smoke)
- toilet paper
- first-aid kit
- chairs
- a good book + my diary

What else do you think I'll need? I haven't camped for years! I'd love for you to share your favorite camping recipes, games or memories!!The person with the best ideas will get a special surprise!
