Lenten Activities for Kids {Part 2}

Last week, I was talking with one of my friends on Facebook about different Lenten activities for kids and she shared some wonderful ideas with me. I asked her if she would be willing to write a guest post for Adventures of an Orthodox Mom with some those ideas. She agreed and you can read her post below! I hope you enjoy her ideas as much as I have!Great Lent Poster for KidsThis is a Great Lent poster Ace made in Sunday School a few years ago. It's a quick and simple educational project!

I'm Lindsay (Anna) and Sylvia asked me to write a guest post for her wonderful blog on how I try to make Lent more meaningful for my children. My husband and I have two children, Evanthia (age 6) and Aristithi (age 2 ½) and we attend St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Peoria, AZ. 1)Each year I create a Lenten Activity Book. I find various icons or pictures to color, word searches, mazes and activity pages relating to a bible reading each day. I print the pages and have them spirally bound so this book is easy to use and stays nice and neat. Each day my daughter spends time doing a page and she also can take the book to church to work on. Some days are busier than others so I don't worry if she doesn't do every single page. My daughter (who is 6) asked me a few days ago to make her a book again this year. I'll be adding some new pages using this site. If you'd like to see the activity book I created last year, leave a comment with your email address and I'll send it to you. 2)Last year I created a Lenten poster similar to this. For each day of Lent there is a scripture verse and page number for The Children's Bible Reader (leave your email address in the comment section for this as well). There is also a symbol listed in case I ever want to create a Lenten Jesus Tree. I also included something to count for the day (icons in the house, windows, door knobs, etc). The number of pennies would be kept in a donation jar to donate to the church at the end of Lent. I also have a chart that has all of this information in case I don't want to hang up the poster in my house. (E-mail me if you want this.)3)I also have a 2 ½ year son who has a hard time paying attention in church. I printed these Holy Week icon cards which he loves! My daughter still loves to play with them, too. I had them laminated so they'll last for several years. The OCA website also has a great resource called Journey to Pascha that could be used at home or for Sunday School.

Have a blessed Lent! If you would like to write a guest post for Adventures of an Orthodox Mom, please send an email to Sylvia{at}OrthodoxMom{dot}com with the subject line GUEST POST. Thank you!
