She Reads Truth Journaling Bible Giveaway
I get lots of questions about the type of Bible I use and my thoughts on the various journaling Bibles available. My favorite Bible, especially for studying, is the two volume set by Holy Apostle Convent. It has a plethora of endnotes on each book that takes your understanding of the Scriptures to another level. It is available here.But sometimes, especially in the morning with my coffee, when I just want to read the Bible and not necessarily take notes or dive into a deep study, I use a journaling Bible. The first two I used are posted here. My goal is to have one Bible full of notes and doodles for each of my children.
Recently, I spied this beautiful journaling Bible in a friend's Instagram feed. I loved how beautiful and feminine it felt and realized since I'd been filling my journals out for my boys, I kept them neutral of even masculine looking in hopes that they'll use them on their own one day, but I really wanted that pretty Bible for myself! Luckily, I received an offer to review it soon after I saw it.
And let me tell you, it is even more beautiful in person! The gorgeous poppy colored canvas is so pretty to look at and the edges of random chapters are also highlighted in a matching shade. I think it's so important for women to really focus on spending time reading the Bible every day. That's part of the reason I think Psalter Groups have become so popular. Having a set reading each day and also a group to help keep us accountable, gives us the push we need to stay focused on our spiritual lives. It's difficult as Orthodox women to find a good translation in a Bible that allows us to express a little creativity and, what I really love most about the journaling Bible trend, is the room to write notes. The extra wide margins are so helpful when listening to homilies!Some of my favorite homilies and Bible studies are from Patristic Nectar. My Bibles are filled with notes from Fr. Josiah Trenham's series'! While, I'll be honest, this translation is not entirely accurate, unfortunately most aren't, I still really enjoy it for easy Bible reading. And if it encourages me to pick it up with my pouch of colored pencils, and spend time reading and pondering the Word of God, I consider that a good thing. Ideally, we would have a journaling version of the Orthodox Study Bible, I've even contacted Orthodox publishers about creating one, but so far it's proving to be a difficult task. Maybe in the future, though!
