fall frills and chills
I was born and raised in a small town in Ohio and moved to Florida ten years ago. As much as I love it here, there's no place like home especially this time of year. There aren't many signs of fall here and memories from autumns past flood my mind with their beautiful colors, scents and sentiments. I remember pulling out our fall jackets and light scarves and heading to the apple orchards. The minute we got out of the car we could smell the fresh apple cider and all the other surefire signs of the season.
We'd pick apples and run through cornfield mazes. Then we'd go to the pumpkin patch area where we'd choose our pumpkin and then head inside for some hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick.
Can you tell how much I miss those times? This is usually the time of year I go back home but this year we went for the fourth and we'll be going back so my boys can play in the snow in January.
Every year I try to re-create these wonderful fall memories for my family by baking some yummy apple and pumpkin treats, reading fun fall books and collecting acorns that we turn into fun little projects. The weather has been getting beautiful and is becoming cooler in the mornings and evenings. Some years it doesn't get very cold at all, last year I never even got to wear my winter coat. With this sort of weather I've become quite fond of wearing a shawl of some sort. My favorite one has just about had it and so I need to either knit or buy a new one.
I recently found some beautiful shawls and capes on Etsy. This one reminded me of a cape my grandmother crocheted me when I was a girl and obsessed with Little Red Riding Hood and so she thought I needed a cape of my own.
I *heart* this cape! It's made by i like you world and sells for $120, but so sad, it's sold out for the time being.
I also am loving this Tasha Tudor shawl. I love the buttery colored yarn and the soft texture. This might be on my needles next!
Does anyone have any favorite patterns (knit or crochet) or places to buy shawls or capes?
