Chicken Soup Days
Well, we have officially been welcomed into the public school system. Ace came home Friday not feeling well and woke up Saturday morning with a fever of 101.6. By 4:00 p.m. it had gone up to 103.3 and he was feeling nauseous so I gave him Tylenol again and began applying cold cloths to his head. He took a nap for several hours and when he woke up the fever had broke and did not return again, thank God.While he slept, I read the Akathist to St. Panteleimon and the Canon to the Lord for a Sick Child, then I made some homemade chicken soup--we seem to be eating this a lot lately...Sunday morning he complained that his eyes hurt when he first woke up and I figured it was because of the fever. The rest of the day he was fine but I wanted to be sure before I sent him back to school so I kept him home and took him to see the doctor. After examining him, she determined the reason for the fever, etc. was because of a slight ear infection, which sort of sounded funny to me since he has only had one ear infection in his life and did not have any complaints about his ears. She gave us a prescription for antibiotics but as soon as I left I got the gut feeling that he was misdiagnosed. It was not his regular doctor and although she was very kind, I felt like it was just a very rushed appointment.By the time we had lunch and came home Lucky was running a slight fever (100.5) and his nose had started to run like crazy. So I gave him Tylenol and put him to sleep early. Now, DH is in bed with a 101.4 fever and the chills, so I made some chamomile tea with locally grown honey for him. Ace on the other hand, feels fine and has been running around like normal all day.I keep praying I'm not next because I don't know who will take care of everyone/thing if I get sick now... If I am next I hope it's after everyone else recovers. We've been taking the recommended preventative measures but we still have a house full of sick people. Please keep us in your prayers...
"O Almighty Lord, Physician of our souls and bodies, Who humble and lift up, Who reprimand and again heal, visit (name) with Your mercy, for he (she) is suffering. Stretch forth Your arm which is so full of healing and health, and cure him (her), raising him (her) from his (her) bed and pain. Reprove the spirit of weakness which is in him (her) and driver far from him (her) pain, wounds, chills, fever and weakness. If he (she) has sins or transgressions, loosen, remit and forgive them in Your love for mankind. O Lord, have compassion on your creation, in Christ Jesus our Lord, with Whom You are blessed, together with the all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen."
